Ay, por Dios, I haven't updated this blog in ages. It can hardly be called a blog without new posts. Well, this is old news by now, but I was extremely pleasantly surprised that the latest Mamborama CD was nominated for INTERNATIONAL FAIR CUBADISCO 2005, the Cuban equilalent of the Grammies. I feel so honored by this, you can't imagine, because I am NOT Cuban! As far as I know, this is the first CD made by a non-Cuban that has been nominated for the popular dance music category. And look at the company the group is in: My mentor and santo Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, Juan Formell y Los Van Van, Piloto y Klimax, Son 14, Yurmuri y sus hermanos, and.. MAMBORAMA??!? wow. just wow. And in the end, the award went to who deserved it, Manolito for Locos Por Mi Habana, but I feel as if I won just to be recogized and nominated along with the people that I truly admire, and have learned so much from.

Other than that, I am in the pre-production stages for the new Mamborama CD, and should start recording very soon, if all goes well. We previewed two of the new songs on the European tour, and the reaction was very good. Look for lots of dance tunes, more vocals, and more than a few surprise invitados. Stay tuned...

Extensive Cuba trip report now online.

Here's an online scrapbook of photos of La Habana and some of the recording sessions for the new album.
